The Ka/Ks ratio ( ) measures selective pressure by comparing nonsynonymous substitutions ( ) to synonymous substitutions ( ), with ratios <1is less than 1 ≈1is approximately equal to 1>1is greater than 1
indicating purifying, neutral, and positive selection, respectively. The KaKs_Calculator toolkit computes these rates by taking codon-aware alignments in AXT format and applying evolutionary models through a command-line interface.
