Softick Audio Gateway is a legacy, specialized audio driver originally designed in the mid-2000s to enable high-quality Bluetooth stereo audio (A2DP) on vintage platforms like Palm OS PDA devices and early Mac operating systems (such as Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger) that did not natively support it.

If you are experiencing issues where the audio is cutting out, failing to connect, or getting stuck in low-quality mono mode, you can fix it using the targeted troubleshooting steps below. 1. Fix the Common “Trial Expired” Audio Cut-off

Softick Audio Gateway operates on a strict trial period. When the trial expires, the software will automatically disconnect or silence your Bluetooth audio every few minutes.

Palm OS Fix: Open a file manager like Filez on your Palm device. Navigate to your system preferences and delete the preference files labeled SwSs 1 and TNpt 305. This manually resets the trial counter.

Mac OS X Fix: Navigate to ~/Library/Preferences/ and delete any plist files associated with Softick, then relaunch the application. 2. Force the Correct A2DP Audio Profile

If your Bluetooth headphones connect but sound like a grainy telephone call, the software has mistakenly defaulted to the Hands-Free Profile (HFP) instead of the high-fidelity Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP).

Open the Softick Audio Gateway settings panel on your device. Locate the Audio Profiles or Bluetooth Services tab.

Force-disable HFP / HSP (Headset Profile) and ensure A2DP (Stereo Audio) is explicitly checked.

Cycle your device’s Bluetooth off and back on to force the handshake to refresh. 3. Clear and Re-pair Device Association

Corrupted binding files frequently cause connection timeouts.

Unpair your Bluetooth headphones completely from the Softick interface and your device’s native Bluetooth settings.

Turn off Bluetooth on any nearby modern devices (like your smartphone) to prevent them from highjacking the headphone connection. Put your headphones into Pairing Mode.

Open Softick Audio Gateway, select Connect/Search, and establish a completely fresh link. 4. Adjust Low-Level Audio Buffer (For Stuttering)

Because vintage processors have limited bandwidth, running other apps simultaneously can cause the Bluetooth audio stream to choke and skip.
