Clear Disk Info is a lightweight, free Windows utility created by Carifred that translates complex, raw storage device data into an easy-to-read health status. It supports internal and external HDDs, SSDs, NVMe drives, and flash drives.
By reading the drive’s built-in S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology) attributes, it gives you an instant overview of your storage health. 1. Download and Run the Tool
Get the App: Download the program directly from the official Carifred Clear Disk Info Page.
No Installation Needed: The tool runs as a portable utility. Double-click the downloaded file to open it.
Connect Your Devices: Ensure any external hard drives or USB flash drives you want to test are plugged into your computer before launching. 2. Check the Disk Overview Sidebar
When the application opens, it lists all detected storage devices in the left sidebar. At a glance, you can see the following details for each drive:
Device Name & Size: Helps you quickly identify which drive is which.
Current Temperature: Kept in check to ensure the drive isn’t overheating.
Speed / Life Left: Displays the remaining lifespan percentage, which is especially helpful for SSDs.
Overall Status: Shows a quick, clear health reading (such as “Good” or “Caution”). 3. Analyze Detailed Health Attributes
Click on any storage device in the left sidebar to populate the main viewing area with its specific S.M.A.R.T. statistics. Clear Disk Info simplifies this data by highlighting critical indicators so you don’t have to decipher hexadecimal values yourself. Keep an eye out for these critical rows:
Health Percentage: A percentage closer to 100% means your drive is in optimal shape.
Powered-on Hours & Counts: Displays exactly how many hours the drive has run and how many times it has been restarted.
Critical Issues: The tool automatically highlights any failing attributes or bad sectors in distinct colors, drawing your attention to immediate risks. 4. Set Up Real-Time Monitoring
If you want to keep an eye on your storage health over time, you can configure the app to run continuously: Select Your Drive: Click on the drive in the left pane.
Enable Monitoring: Check the Monitor this disk box located in the top title bar. This switches the app into Disk Monitoring Setup mode.
Choose Attributes: Tick the checkboxes for the specific attributes you wish to track in the right pane.
Pick a Notification Mode: Choose Strict mode if you want alerts for minor changes, or Passive mode if you only want to be alerted about critical, major changes.
