MyMedia (powered by the Kaltura video platform) is a cloud-based streaming repository used by universities and organizations to host, record, edit, and share media securely. It serves as a private locker where content remains completely hidden until you explicitly publish it.
Because setup paths vary depending on how you use it, this guide assumes you are accessing MyMedia as an instructor or student integrated within a Learning Management System (LMS) like Canvas or Blackboard. Step 1: Access and Account Activation You must first log in to initialize your personal library.
LMS Access: Log into Canvas, Blackboard, or Moodle, navigate to your course, and click My Media from the navigation menu.
Direct Access: Alternatively, visit your institution’s standalone portal (e.g., mymedia.bu.edu), click the Profile icon, and sign in with your single sign-on credentials.
Activation: Clicking your profile or initializing the portal for the first time creates your cloud storage allocation instantly. Step 2: Add or Record Content
Once inside your repository, locate the Add New button at the top right to choose an ingestion method:
Media Upload: Select local .mp4, .mov, or .mp3 files from your hard drive and drag them directly into the browser.
Express Capture: Launch a quick, browser-based recorder to capture your webcam and microphone without installing software.
Kaltura Capture: Download this desktop app to record multi-stream content, such as your screen, PowerPoint slides, and webcam simultaneously. Step 3: Optimize Metadata and Processing
